My first school day in Manchester

Monday, July 4th

Manchester used to be an old industrial town, originally a Roman settlement. Now it`s a modern cultural city with rich heritage. It has got 3 universities and the largest student population in UK. It`s famous for its biannual Manchester International Festival. It is a home to two of the world`s greatest football teams. It is situated in the north-west of England, close to Liverpool and Lake District only a few hours away.
In January 2015, the New York Times named Manchester one of the top 50 places to visit. (London didn`t even feature)
My course started at 9.15 am at Bridgewater House with making my student ID card for myself and having first introductory sessions of the course. Besides me there are 3 Italians and an Egyptian should arrive soon but some activities we had mixed together with other courses.
In the afternoon we were all divided into groups of 4 , were given instructions and tasks sheets (Manchester trail) and we had to move according to the instructions and complete different tasks like "Turn left, up Whitworth Street. As you walk, notice the large building opposite you. What is it now, and what did it use to be? Feel free to ask a passerby!" or "Make a note of any new words or phrases you come across!" or
"Head towards Piccadilly Gardens about 400 m on your left, look at the picture on your instructions sheet from year 1954 (a painting by L.S.Lowry) How does the real sight differ from the painting?"
Why not do the similar activity with our students, in the first or the last lesson of the year or term.
Instructions in English and they have to complete and report the tasks later in English. Very often they know really little about their home town!
Now I`m going to add some photos taken during the trail.
